How to Write a Book in 6 Months or Less

Are you interested in learning how to write a book in 6 months or Less?

Writing a book in six months can sound like a daunting task: Most Americans don't even read a book in six months! The typical novel is over 50,000 words. This blog post will teach you how to write a blog in 6 months or less.

Writing a book can have an incredible impact on your career, family, and personal satisfaction. 'Books are the new business card' (Fast Company) One group puts together the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) every year in November to challenge authors and writers to write 50,000 words in one month!

Why Write A Book?

Authors have may have many different goals for writing a book, and it may be many different goals that help complete the end product:

  • Writing a book for Profit -- Make Money - Many authors enjoy a full-time income from producing 1-2 books per year. In fact, many of us have the romantic ideal of an author living in a beach island (Sicily, Carribean, New Zealand) and enjoying royalty checks sent directly into our Swiss bank accounts. Whether you write a children's story for your 4 year old daughter over the course of 6 months, or a complete how-to guide to Amish Woodworking, a market exists for your product and they are willing to invest time and money to learn from your experience.
  • Personal Enjoyment and Satisfaction - Writing is a fulfilling and personally rewarding form of entertainment. Whether you are a hobby woodworker, a hobby metal detector, or model plane builder, writing a book can be a great way to track your own progress, stay organized, and build a portfolio of your work that you can show to friends or family. By dedicating a small amount of time each day, at the end of days and weeks the amount of work you have created will astound and impress you!
  • Get Paid a Full Time or Part Time Income to write for other businesses and freelancers - After a few months, your skills will have improved to the point where others will want to use your skills to help promote their blog or website. By using websites such as Fiverr.com, ODesk.com, Elance.com you may be able to develop a part-time or full-time source of income to do what you love!

How To Write A Book in 6 Months:

  1. Write for 30 minutes per day and aim for 450-550 words during this time. The higher quality the content, the less editing will be required in the later stages to prepare for publication. Well researched articles, information that will be relevant in 6 months to 5 years, all will begin to write a well developed and researched book day after day, week after week.
  2. Begin writing your book by creating a blog and post one-500 word article per day that is informative and educational for your readers. By the time you have written enough content for a book, you have an organized, cross-referenced, readable document and a built in audience. Certain topics will always be relevant and important, in any city anywhere in the world. For Example, with Mr Frugal Life future posts will be:

Resume-A-Day 30 day challenge

Creating a resume is your first step in establishing a new business relationship. A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, employment history and contact information. Whether you are gainfully employed, looking for a new job, or are a successful freelancer, maintaining a resume that is up-to-date is important for many reasons:

  • Opening new doors and opportunities is the goal of an up-to-date and high-quality resume, which may not always be a new job opportunity. A resume and/or portfolio can very quickly lead to new clients, potential business partnerships, and a higher profile as a business leader.
  • Maintaining an up to date, factual, concise and detailed resume is more important than ever. Without writing down classes, special events, awards, projects, publications are all harder to remember 5 or 10 years later when you are trying to put together a resume last minute after losing the main source of income. Without a back up plan and continual practice of resume preparation and interview, the transition to a new job may be long and difficult.
  • Preparing for an interview, remaining marketable, and consistently sharpening business skills is important whether or not actively seeking new employment. The ability to 'sell' is important for job seekers, entrepreneurs, and C-Level professionals alike.
Creating and maintaining is an important skill. Also, applying to 30 open positions in 30 days requires performing research on potential job opportunities. In performing this research, you may find certain skills you may want to emphasize on your resume, or new skills to learn to land the job you want in the future.

Jobseekers are in a tough environment, with competition for any reasonable position. To land a job requires diligence, constant maintenance and improvement of skills, and constantly be searching and applying for jobs. In a specific field (for example, geotechnical engineering) the jobs may be at only a few companies with a few positions, so one might not become available immediately when you want to start searching for a job.
